“Freeze! Hands in the air where I can see emm. Try anything funny and I'll shoot.”

Jack smiled proudly while raising his hands.

“I'm impressed you got here so fast. Pretty sure I didn't set off any alarms.”

Mike grabbed Jack’s arms, slapping a pair of handcuffs on.

“Keep talking, and I'll shoot.” Mike growled in his husky voice.

“Guess you wouldn't believe I got stuck in the museum after closing?”

Mike didn't respond but gave Jack a smack to the back of the head.

“Ouch! Guess you're not much of a banter type.”

The two men left the exhibit they were in with all the prized jewels safe and behind reinforced glass, much to Jack's dismay.

“You're finally going to jail. Have fun trying to escape from the hole we throw you in.”

“I hope it's as challenging as you make it out to be.”

Mike was getting ready to smack Jack again when a piercing sound of static and broken glass erupted through the museum. Mike turned Jack around and pinned him against the wall.

“What did you do?”

Jack's voice squeaked out from under Mike's elbow.

“When have I ever used explosives?”

Mike dropped his arms, leaving Jack gasping for air on the ground.

“Not much of a foreplay guy either, hey?” Jack complained.

Mike grabbed the walkie-talkie attached to his security uniform.

“Did anyone else hear the explosion? Over.”

Nothing but static buzzed out of his walkie-talkie. He checked his phone next.

“Fuck, no signal.” He muttered to himself.

He stared down at Jack, deciding his fate.

“Hey, I'm just as curious as you. I'll follow along nicely.” Jack said.

Mike gave Jack a blank stare. Jack was focusing on Mike’s puffy mustache, which reminded Jack of 80’s action films.

“Go.” Mike said after a while.

Jack got up and led the way, following the source of the sound. They ended up at the Egyptian exhibit. Before he entered the exhibit, Mike pulled Jack back. He put a finger over his lips to signal for quiet. He pulled a mirror attached to an adjustable rod out of his vest. He sat at the corner of the exhibit door, angling the mirror in the entrance to look inside the room. He made a bunch of military-looking hand gestures to Jack, who got none of it, except for that there were three individuals, but he nodded his understanding to Mike the whole time. Mike started counting down from three on his fingers. Three, two. One. Then he sprinted around the corner, pistol in one hand and flashlight in the other underneath it. The three grey aliens turned towards Mike, surprised. Mike was more surprised as he looked at the strange creatures that came in through the ceiling he froze. The aliens recovered quicker. They all had strange looking rifles with an underbarrel attachment. The biggest one in the back raised the gun and a ball shot out from the lower barrel of the weapon. The ball expanded in the air into a large hollow sphere. When the sphere crashed into Mike it caged him inside. The sphere cage was made of two metal loops and an orange plastic-like material. Mike was trapped. But a smile crossed his face.

“You aliens forgot one thing.”

“What?” the alien who shot him asked.

“I didn’t come alone.”

Jack, who was still outside the exhibit, realised that Mike was making a dramatic entry line for him, but he had no idea what he was supposed to do, how, or why.

“Okay.” The alien said again.

“Hey, sorry I'm late, Mike.” Jack said as he casually walked into the exhibit.

He was instantly shot with the same sphere trap that was holding Mike hostage.

“You're useless.” Mike growled.

“Okay well, you two finish cleaning up this area. I'll scout ahead to find the prized jewels.” the lead alien said.

“Okay boss sure can do.” Another alien said in a funny high pitched voice.

The two remaining aliens were zapping parts of the exhibit, using a stick they carried on their hip, they would touch objects that would then float like helium balloons through the roof and presumably to an alien spacecraft.

“Hey Mike.” Jack whispered from his prison sphere.

Mike didn't respond.

“So right now not only am I handcuffed but I'm also in an alien egg or something.”

“Are you going to do something useful yet?”

“Hey man, I could have just run away after they got you, I'm a wanted man after all.”

“So?”

Jack sighed while spinning the handcuffs on his fingers.

“You're no fun, man.”

Mike glared at Jack. Jack touched part of the metal rings in his prison, and it collapsed quietly. He went over to Mike’s prison sphere looking down at him with a smug look on his face. He cupped a hand over his ear and gestured with his other one for Mike to talk.

“Help me out.”

Jack raised an eyebrow.

“Help me out, please.” Mike groaned.

Jack undid the prison sphere over Mike as well. As soon as he was out he started shouting.

“This is all property of the state!”

He drew his gun and shot at the aliens who were distracted. He got two clean head shots, their grey bodies dropping and dissolving into rainbow smoke.

“Jack?” Mike asked

“Yeah Mike?”

“My mom will be sad, she always told me aliens are real.”

“Then why will she be sad?”

“Because I'm about to make them fake again.”

Jack smiled brightly. Not only was that a cool line from Mike who already looks like an action hero. But that was the closest Mike has ever gotten to making small talk with him. Jack picked up an alien rifle and they walked to the crown jewel exhibit. This time Jack pulled Mike back from the doorway. Jack made a bunch of random hand gestures while giving Mike a serious look. Then shouted into the doorway.

“Boss, the humans escaped and might get help quickly.” Jack said in a perfect replica of the high pitched aliens voices

“What? Umm Sure”

The alien came around the corner freezing when he saw Jack.

“Oh wow you really did es-”

‘BANG’

Mike's bullet went straight through the side of that alien's head. The body going limp and dissolving into rainbow smoke.

“Good plan.” Mike said while shooting Jack a thumbs up.

“Umm yeah.”

Jack couldn't tell if Mike actually understood his hand gestures or if he was just making fun of him. Jack didn't like what either answer implied.

“Well, thanks for the help,” Mike said.

“Please, I should be the one thanking you.”

“Thank me for what?” Mike asked.

A prison sphere appeared over Mike once more.

“The crown jewels, of course.” Jack said tauntingly.

“Even an alien attack isn't enough to get you to behave?”

“Well I was going to get them before the aliens showed up.”

“Liar, I had you caught.”

“Please, handcuffs? That was just step one of my old plan.”

“You won't get away with this.”

“If I had a dollar for every time I've heard that, I would have so much money I wouldn't have to steal anymore. I still would, don't get me wrong. But I wouldn't have to.”

“Enjoy your freedom while it lasts.”

“Ohh I will.”

Jack gathered all the jewels he wanted to take and was walking away with his new treasures.

“See you at the art exhibit, same time next week, then?”
